Should You Go See Solo Mio in the Theatre?

The short answer, Yes!

It is not often that you can bring your bride to a "chick flick" on date night and not cringe.  This movie was smart, well done, surprising at times, and treated viewers to the beauty of Italy.  Today's culture tags this movie as "especially good for audiences seeking faith-friendly fare" which is poor labeling.  This label may be true for some who are emersed in the post-Christian culture that we live in today.  However, for folks who might be worried they will be viewing an overly sappy "Christian movie" that tends to be heavy handed in messaging, then this is not that movie either.  This movie is Christian probably because of the simple fact that a Christian made the movie.  The values of a author are apparent within the movie, but in the same ways they were apparent within movies 40-50 years ago when someone had a story to share.  We need Christian authors to write books, and we need Christian story tellers to make movies, not because they are Christian, but because they have stories to tell and they are still curious about the world, they are still interested in metaphysics!  

A few notes of encouragement.  There is a smart play on the raunchy-romcom-debauch-scene that tends to fill movies today -- nicely done!  There are several surprise guests in this movie - super excited to see them!  There is a great twist in the end, not just a formulaic ending.  Overall I love it -- go see it, and bring your Beau or Girl!
